Teknologi Informasi (TI) yang kini berkembang amat pesat, tak bisa dipungkiri memberikan kontribusi yang signifikan terhadap seluruh proses globalisasi ini. Mulai dari wahana TI yang paling sederhana berupa perangkat radio dan televisi, hingga internet dan telepon gengam dengan protokol aplikasi tanpa kabel (WAP), informasi mengalir dengan sangat cepat dan menyeruak ruang kesadaran banyak orang.

Kemajuan teknologi informasi yang demikian pesat membuat bola dunia terasa makin kecil dan ruang seakan menjadi tak berjarak lagi. Cara pandang terhadap duniapun sudah berubah. Teknologi informasi dalam perubahan cara pandang itu telah menjadi ujung tombak berbagai perubahan lain yang dirasakan manusia di muka bumi ini.

Di era globalisasi, teknologi informasi berperan sangat penting. Dengan menguasai teknologi dan informasi, kita memiliki modal yang cukup untuk menjadi pemenang dalam persaingan global. Di era globalisasi, tidak menguasai teknologi informasi identik dengan buta huruf.

Perbedaan utama antara negara maju dan negara berkembang adalah kemampuan ilmu pengetahuan dan teknologi. Kemajuan yang pesat di bidang ilmu pengetahuan dan teknologi di negara-negara maju karma didukung oleh sistem informasi yang mapan. Sebaliknya, sistem informasi yang lemah di negara-negara berkembang mengakibatkan keterbelakangan dalam penguasaan. Ilmu pengetahuan dan teknologi. Jadi jelaslah bahwa maju atau tidaknya suatu negara sangat di tentukan oleh penguasaan terhadap informasi, karena informasi merupakan modal utama dalam mengembangkan ilmu pengetahuan dan Teknologi yang menjadi senjata pokok untuk membangun negara. Sehingga apabila satu negara ingin maju dan tetap eksis dalam persaingan global, maka negara tersebut harus menguasai informasi.

Di era globalisasi dan informasi ini penguasaan terhadap informasi tidak cukup harnya sekedar menguasai, diperlukan kecepatan dan ketepatan. Sebab hampir tidak ada guna menguasai informasi yang telah usang, padahal perkembangan ilmu pengetahuan dan teknologi yang sangat cepat mengakibatkan usia informasi menjadi sangat pendek, dengan kata lain, informasi lama akan diabaikan dengan adanya informasi yang lebih baru.

Kehidupan kita sekarang perlahan lahan mulai berubah dari dulunya era industri berubah menjadi era informasi di balik pengaruh majunya era globalisasi dan informatika menjadikan komputer, internet dan pesatnya perkembangan teknologi informasi sebagai bagian utama yang harus ada atau tidak boleh kekurangan dikehidupan kita. Aktifitas network globalisasi ekonomi yang disebabkan oleh kemajuan dari teknologi informasi bukan hanya mengubah pola produktivitas ekonomi tetapi juga meningkatkan tingkat produktivitas, dan pada saat bersamaan juga menyebabkan perubahan structural dalam kehidupan politik, kebudayaan, kehidupan sosial masyarakat dan juga konsep waktu dalam dalam berbagai lapisan masyarakat.

Perkembangan teknologi juga mempunyai sisi negatif, misalnya membuat kita jadi terhipnotis dan cenderung lebih menyukai dunia maya serta melupakan dunia nyata. Kini ada orang yang mendapatkan kekasihnya melalui internet, khususnya lewat jejaring sosial. Sayangnya, hubungan tersebut, seringkali kurang harmonis dibandingkan dengan cara tradisional, yaitu pertemuan nyata.
Sekarang, mulai dari balita sudah akrab dengan teknologi, misalnya dengan permainan dalam Laptop. Mereka lambat laun lebih tertarik dengan teknologi dan jika kurang diperhatikan, maka mereka cenderung hidup dengan gadget tersebut. Hingga kasih sayang orangtua kepadanya kurang terasa.

Tak hanya itu, dampak negative juga sering saya liat dari para pengguna smartphone dan BlackBerry. Kedua gadget tersebut menjadi gadget yang paling banyak saya temukan di lingkungan sekitar saya, mulai dari anak-anak hingga dewasa, kebanyakan telah menggunakan BlackBerry yang terkenal karena fitur BlackBerry Messengger (BBM).
Contoh dampak negative dari gadget tersebut adalah ketika saya sedang reuni dan mengajak teman saya mengobrol, teman saya tampaknya mengacuhkan saya dan lebih asik chat dengan teman BBM nya. Melihat hal tersebut, akibatnya pasti lawan bicara akan kesal, jika dibiarkan dapat merusak hubungan persahabatan.

Itu hanyalah salah satu contoh bagaimana penggunaan teknologi yang kurang baik hingga dapat menyebabkan dampak negative. Sungguh merugi jika kita memiliki gadget dengan teknologi tinggi, namun tidak memiliki teman di dunia nyata. Teknologi tersebut membuat kita lupa bahwa kita hidup dalam dunia nyata, dimana kita manusia adalah mahluk sosial yang saling membutuhkan satu sama lain.
Teknologi kian hari semakin canggih, sehingga akan membuat kita dituntut untuk memilikinya. Keinginan atau hasrat manusia untuk hidup serba instant membuat kita akan terus berfikir dan berusaha untuk mewujudkannya. Perkembangan teknologi pun akan terus berkembang seiring berjalannya waktu, dan kita harus bisa memanfaatkan nya dengan sebaik mungkin dan jangan sampai merugikan kita.
